blossomsandbirds: Are you a cat? :P
it appears i am, yes.
Lots of love for Jacques-Louis David, but I haven’t yet seen anything about one of his students, Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres. Ingres was a bit… strange. As Romanticism was on the rise, Ingres really just wanted to go back to classical art and Medieval and Renaissance painters, particularly Raphael (another crush worthy artist). Seriously, he was pretty much in love with Raphael. Ingres struggled for much of his life to find continuous success, but he is mostly remembered for “La Grande Odalisque” and a painting of Napoleon in imperial robes (which Napoleon apparently hated at the time).
Ingres was really, as my art history professor described it, a big weirdo with an adorable face.
